1970 OLDSMOBILE TORONADO GT
Car has been sold, thank you, but you can enjoy the pictures

The Toronado GT was produced by Oldsmobile one year only, 1970. In this last year of the original Toronado body style (1966-70), Oldsmobile decided to provide special 'GT' badging for what had been offered simply as a 'W34' option in 1968 and 1969. The result is a unique luxury-muscle coupe. Unique because it combines 400 hp with front-wheel drive, resulting in the most hp per pound of any production FWD car until the Cadillac Allante.

Of the 25,433 Toronados built in 1970, only 5,341 were Toronado GT models. The GT provided a 455 cu V8 of 400 hp, up 25 hp from the standard 455. A 400165 performance cam and special torque converter gave this Toronado 0-60 times of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 135 mph. Dual exhaust with a notched rear bumper and nugget gold metallic paint with black wheel arch pin-stripes and the GT hood badge, further identify the GT.

This car has been in Washington since new. It had a single owner until 1996 when I purchased the car. It has traveled 126,000 miles in the past 27 years. An original, un-restored car, it is in excellent operating condition. A recent compression test showed 180 +/-5% on all eight cylinders. It has several additional options, including; air conditioning, heavy-duty radiator (just replaced), rear window de-fogger, front floor-mat and front cornering lights. With 10.25:1 compression, it requires 92 octane fuel but will run smoothly without additional octane additive. The glass is all perfect and all the electric windows work. The clock works but not well, otherwise all systems function as expected. The interior is gold with a split front bench. As an un-restored car, some cosmetic needs should be addressed. The paint is showing the result of 27 years on a metallic finish, though still presentable. The front 'A' pillars, rear-wheel arches and inside trunk lid have the common rust spots, with an estimate of $2,000 for all body work and a top quality repaint. The black vinyl top has no rips but several small rust bubbles are evident and the best suggestion would be to remove the top and repaint the metal (included in $2,000). The Toronado looks so much better without a vinyl top. Tires are new with less than 500 miles. Brakes, exhaust, suspension and handling are in fine condition.

Value on the Toronado GT ranges from $2,000 to $12,000, depending on condition. At $2,950, this car is priced very resonably and with body and paint, would be well worth the $5,000 invested. Please understand, this is not a car that needs to be 'restored', it simply would not be cost effective to do so. This 'gentleman's express' is ready to drive anywhere today and can be seen by appointment.

Please note: Car has been sold 12/21/98, thank you
